A self-image is how we see and feel about ourselves. It takes into account all our characteristics, personality traits, our abilities, beliefs, how we think others perceive us, and this creates a mental picture of our self-image. We are not born with our self-image but it is created throughout our childhood as we learn to experience the world and evaluate ourselves against it.
The fact is, no matter how great your childhood was, it’s likely that everyone had negative experiences that led to the creation of their self image.
What most people don’t realise is that through their self-image, they carry around all these negative childhood experiences throughout their adult life, never questioning whether they are true or realising they can let them go!
And given that self-image is the basis for all thoughts and actions (through the subconscious mind), if you are like most of my clients then chances are a negative self-image is what is keeping you stuck in this cycle of dipping a toe in the deep end, only to swim back to the shallows over and over and over again.
And I don’t have to tell you, that your dream life isn’t in the shallow end!
